Voxdale is a design, engineering and research agency for mechanical and mechatronical applications in medical, automotive and industrial sectors, and in space & aerospace. In our design and engineering process, Voxdale uses plenty of simulation, optimization and prototyping tools to look into early feasibility of ideas, to generate unique and disruptive concepts, and to minimize risks during industrialization. Voxdale typically works on structural materials, architecture, composite design, thermal management and aerodynamics.
We have expertise in innovation and development of systems and products in a variety of sectors, including medicine and healthcare. We offer extensive range of virtual optimization tools for virtual prototyping and feasibility check on radical innovations. Our specialities include 3D-printing, development and engineering. We currently host 12 employees, nine out of which are involved in research and development activities of the company.
We are currently searching for an Early Stage Researcher (ESR4) / Doctoral student in Horizon2020 MSCA European Training Network ‘PRINT-AID: Development of personalized anti-infective medical devices combining printing technologies and antimicrobial functionality’
Doctoral training will be carried out in a multi-disciplinary research training network ‘PRINT-AID’, which will offer training modules and transferable skills training as part of individual career development plan. The PRINT-AID project will provide training across a wide range of disciplines including biology, pharmacology, chemistry and material sciences, ensuring interdisciplinary and intersectoral experience. You will be enrolled in the Antwerp Doctoral School in Antwerp, Belgium and have the potential to defend your PhD at the end of the project. The PhD research will be conducted in English. Majority of the work will be carried out at Voxdale, and the study plan includes an intersectoral secondment period to Warsaw University of Technology, POLAND.
Technical improvements of 3D-printing of anti-infective medical devices to counteract biofilm-related infections.
The objectives of this project is:
i) to perform modifications of the 3D-printer to allow direct inclusion of antimicrobials within the printed carrier polymer
ii) to identify best candidates as support material, and needed medical grade requirements
iii) to propose recommendations for 3D-printed antimicrobial medical devices.
What we offer
The MSCA programme offers highly competitive and attractive salary and working conditions. The successful candidates will receive a salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for Early Stage Researchers. Exact salary will be confirmed upon appointment and consists of Living allowance (approximately €37.320 /year depending on a correction factor to be applied per country) and Mobility allowance (approximately €7200 /year). Researcher’s may also qualify for a Family allowance of €6000 /year depending on the family situation. In addition to the individual scientific projects at host institution, all fellows will benefit from further continuing education, which includes intrasectoral secondments within the PRINT-AID training network, a variety of training modules as well as transferable skills courses and active participation in PRINT-AID workshops and summer schools.
To qualify, you must fulfill the following criteria
- Hold a MSc or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Be in the first four years of your research career, since e.g. completion of MSc. You cannot already possess a doctorate degree.
- Be willing to move to the country where the research project is located. Additionally, you must NOT have worked or studied for more than 12 months during the last 3 years in the country where the research project is located.
- Be proficient in both written and spoken English.
- Be eligible to enroll on a PhD programme at the host institution (or at designated university in case the host institution is non-academic organisation).
