PRINT-AID IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE OUR SECOND NETWORK-WIDE TRAINING EVENT!
The PRINT-AID SUMMER SCHOOL was organised in Warsaw Poland March 22nd-25th 2018.
Our Summer School was organised in connection to the 1st TERMIS-EU Workshop “3D Printing in Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering”
'TERMIS-EU Workshop will bring together scientists, engineers, clinicians and industry to discuss recent achievements in the field of 3D printing in regenerative medicine with an emphasis on how new discoveries translate into improved clinical practice' says Prof. Wojciech Swieszkowski, the conference chair and PRINT-AID member. 'The main focus will be on bone and cartilage regeneration; however, repair of soft tissues will be also presented.'
The TERMIS-EU workshop provided with insights into the state-of-the-art technologies, methods and biomaterials in 3D printing of biomimetic scaffolds and implants that stimulate desirable cellular responses and tissue regeneration. Additionally, the latest developments and future perspectives in the field of 3D bioprinting used to build 3D personalized living tissue/organs substitutes or models were discussed.
During the PRINT-AID Summer School PRINT-AID students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on sessions on 3D-printing and bioprintig. 'These sessions provided participants opportunity to see the 3D printing and 3D bioprinting in action and to understand how these technologies might be used in engineering of musculoskeletal tissues', continues Prof. Swieszkowski.
PRINT-AID Summer School goes further beyond the theoretical lectures and hands-on training on 3D printing. During the last part of the Summer School our students designed their own 3D-printed medical device prototypes with functional characteristics as group work practice. Could you imagine a more comprehensive training package for PhD students on one of the most exciting disruptive technologies?
We are excited about our programme - the final programme can be viewed here.

Combined AMiCI & PRINT‐AID Training School 2019 - 'Training school on antimicrobial surfaces testing'
was organised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands April 8th-12th 2019.
The Summer School was incorporated within the AMiCI COST Action 'Training school on antimicrobial surfaces testing'.
'We were very pleased to have Prof. Paul Cos (University of Antwerp, Belgium), Niels Klop and Ruud Schreurs (3D Lab, Amsterdam UMC), Prof. Tom Coenye (Ghent University, Belgium), Dr. Theofilos Papadopoulos (Western Macedonia University of applied sciences, Greece), Dr. Simone Schulte (Evonik, Germany) and Prof. Matthew Fields (Center for Biofilm Engineering, Montana State University, USA) as key note speakers during the training school', says Dr. Martijn Riool, the Summer School organizer and PRINT-AID member.
The Training school took a 3-day practical course with supporting lectures. Additionally, a Master class was organised. The experimental program at the Amsterdam UMC at the University of Amsterdam aimed at antimicrobial activity testing (MIC/MBC, JIS, agar diffusion, biofilms etc.), antimicrobial resistance, and immune responses (histology, microscopy etc.). The students were able to bring their own samples for testing too!
PRINT-AID was very excited about our shared programme and the opportunity to network with the COST action in Amsterdam

The workshop will be held in Hof Van Liere in the City Campus of the University of Antwerp.
The beautiful 16th century Hof van Liere is part of the Antwerp cultural-historical patrimony. The adjacent historic buildings that were built by the Jesuits in the 17th century are a haven of peace in the noisy city center. The building complex, named Het Prinsenhof, was equipped as a boarding school in 1575 and later as a military academy and military hospital. In 1988 Het Prinsenhof was purchased by the university and the wings around the courtyard were restored and renovated.
